Overcooked 2 Review

Overcooked 2 was released on August 7th, 2018 by Team 17, the developers behind the Worms franchise. In Overcooked 2, the player can team up with their friends in order to complete recipes that get increasingly difficult as the levels progress.

Team 17s party game pedigree can clearly be seen in Overcooked 2 since it features the same chaotic energy that the Worms game had, the main difference being that instead of competing against your friends you are cooperating with them; that being said Overcooked is a game in which cooperation is key to the gameplay experience to the point that you might end up fighting with your friends if they miss a dish or two.

The gameplay crux from the original Overcooked remains untouched. The player is given a list of recipes on the top of the screen and they must complete them in a certain order to get as many points as possible to progress onto the next level. Overcooked 2 does add some new features like the ability to throw items and online multiplayer.

Overcooked 2 also retains the same charm from the first Overcooked, characters are still really cute and have a lot of personality. The same can also be said about the stages, which can be very tricky and will test your puzzle solving skills if you are trying to get all three stars.

Overcooked 2 is a great game that is perfect for the COVID-19 world that we currently live in where everyone is staying at home. It has great new features and creative new stages that elevate it from the first one, while still retaining the chaotic cooperative gameplay from its predecessor. In his review of Overcooked 2, Steven Petite from ign.com said, “Overcooked 2 is a ridiculously entertaining party game and a challenging extension of the original.” and I agree with this description as it one of the best coop games I have played in recent memory.
